Venlafaxine, an antidepressant, belonging to a group of drugs called selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors, is used to treat major depressive disorder, anxiety, and panic disorder.

Side effects
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction:
skin rash or hives
difficulty breathing
swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Contact your doctor promptly if you have any of the following side effects, especially if they are new symptoms or if they get worse:
anxiety
agitation
irritability
panic attacks
mood changes
aggressiveness
trouble sleeping
severe restlessness
thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself
mania (mental and/or physical hyperactivity)
If you notice any of the symptoms listed below or any other symptoms which seem severe/persistent contact your doctor immediately.
increased blood pressure, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, fast heartbeat; hallucinations, loss of coordination, fainting, coma; seizure; extreme thirst with headache, nausea, vomiting, and weakness; or easy bruising or bleeding

Interaction
Inform your doctor if you are allergic to the formulation of this medication or any other medication in any other form.
warfarin
cimetidine
rizatriptan
naratriptan
tryptophan
haloperidol
risperidone
almotriptan
frovatriptan
sumatriptan
zolmitriptan
ketoconazole
any other antidepressants
Inform your doctor about any other medication you may be taking in any other form.

Overdose
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include sleepiness, irregular heartbeat, and seizures

Notes
Before taking Venlafaxine tell your doctor if you have:
glaucoma
kidney disease
bipolar disorder
high cholesterol
high blood pressure
seizures or epilepsy
cirrhosis or other liver disease
a bleeding or blood clotting disorder
Using too much of this medicine in addition to drinking alcohol can cause death.
Venlafaxine can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert.

Missed Dose
Do not double doses to make up for a missed dose. Consult your health care professional about your missed dose.

Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture.

Precaution
If you need to undergo any kind of surgery, inform your doctor you are taking this medicine.
Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, breast feeding or planning to conceive.
Avoid alcohol and alcohol containing beverages whilst on a course with this medication.
Do not treat yourself with OTC medication whilst on a course with this medication, without consulting with your health care professional.
