Uses
Bactrim, a combination of two antibiotics, is used to treat infections of the urinary tract, middle ear, and respiratory tract.

How to use
Bactrim (SMX-TMP) combination should not be given to infants less than 2 months of age unless directed by the child's doctor.
Take Bactrim by mouth with or without food.
Use Bactrim as directed by your doctor.

Side effects
If any side effects develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. More common side effects may include:
Hives, lack or loss of appetite, nausea, skin rash, vomiting.
Elderly patients, and AIDS patients being treated for Pneumocystis carinii, are more likely to get serious side effects from Bactrim.

Interaction
It is important to check with your doctor before combining Bactrim with the following:
water pills
tricyclic antidepressants
seizure medications
pyrimethamine
oral diabetes medications
methotrexate
indomethacin
digoxin
cyclosporine
blood thinners
amantadine

Overdose
In case of overdose, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.

Notes
Contact your doctor right away if stomach pain or cramps, severe diarrhoea, or bloody stools occur.

Missed Dose

Storage
Store at room temperature between 15 and 25 degrees C / 59 and 77 degrees F, in a cool dry place.

Precaution
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:
if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
if you are taking any prescription (seizure medications) or non-prescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
if you have liver or kidney problems, blood problems, asthma, or AIDS
if you have severe allergies, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, or an enzyme deficiency
if you at risk for low levels of folate in the blood
Diabetes patients – Bactrim may affect your blood sugar. Check blood sugar levels closely. Ask your doctor before you change the dose of your diabetes medicine.
