Uses
Norethindrone, a progestin, is used in the treatment of endometriosis.
A condition in which the type of tissue that lines the uterus (womb) grows in other areas of the body and causes pain, heavy or irregular menstruation (periods), and other symptoms.

How to use
Take norethindrone exactly as prescribed by your health care professional.
Contact your paediatrician regarding the use of this medicine in children.

Side effects
Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
irregular vaginal bleeding or spotting
upset stomach
acne
weight changes
growth of hair on face
enlarged or tender breasts
changes in menstrual flow

Interaction
Inform your doctor if you are allergic to the formulation of this medication or any other medication in any other form.
Inform your doctor about any other medication you may be taking in any other form.

Overdose
In case of overdose, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.

Notes
If you conceive whilst on a course with this medication inform your doctor immediately.
If you need to undergo any kind of surgery, inform your doctor you are taking this medicine.
Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, breast feeding or planning to conceive.
Avoid alcohol and alcohol containing beverages whilst on a course with this medication.
Tell your doctor if you have recently had surgery or have been unable to move around for any reason.

Missed Dose
Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Storage
Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture.

Precaution
If you have or have ever had:
breast cancer; unexplained vaginal bleeding; a missed abortion (a pregnancy that ended when the unborn child died in the uterus but was not expelled from the body); blood clots in your legs, lungs, brain, or eyes; stroke or mini-stroke; coronary artery disease (clogged blood vessels leading to the heart); chest pain; a heart attack; thrombophilia; seizures; migraine headaches; depression; asthma; high cholesterol; diabetes; or heart, kidney, or liver disease.
Your doctor may need to change the doses of your medications or monitor you carefully for side effects.
Norethindrone should never be used to test for pregnancy.
Tell your doctor if you smoke cigarettes. Smoking may increase the risk that you will develop serious side effects of norethindrone.
