Uses
Famciclovir, an antiviral, is used to treat herpes zoster and genital herpes.
Famvir does not cure herpes infections but decreases pain and itching, helps sores to heal, and prevents new ones from forming.

How to use
Take famciclovir exactly as directed.
Contact your paediatrician regarding the use of this medicine in children.

Side effects
Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
diarrhea or loose stools
upset stomach
headache
vomiting
itching
rash

Interaction
No specific interactions with famciclovir are known at this time.
Inform your doctor if you are allergic to the formulation of this medication or any other medication in any other form.
Inform your doctor about any other medication you may be taking in any other form.

Overdose
In case of overdose, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.

Notes
Before taking famciclovir, tell your doctor if you have or have ever had kidney or liver disease, problems with your immune system, human immunodeficiency virus infection (HIV), or acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).
Keep all appointments with your doctor and the laboratory.
Do not have sexual intercourse when you can see the genital herpes lesions.
However, genital herpes can be spread even when there are no symptoms. To decrease the chance of infecting your partner, do not have sexual intercourse when sores are present.

Missed Dose
Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Storage
Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture.

Precaution
If you conceive whilst on a course with this medication inform your doctor immediately.
If you need to undergo any kind of surgery, inform your doctor you are taking this medicine.
Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, breast feeding or planning to conceive.
