Severe blood problems have occurred in patients with HIV who are taking Zidovudine.
Contact your doctor right away if dark urine, yellowing of the eyes or skin, stomach pain, unusual tiredness, muscle aches, fast breathing, drowsiness, fever, chills, or sore throat occurs.

Uses
Zidovudine, a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor, is used to treat the HIV infection.
Zidovudine is used in combination with other anti-virus medicine for the treatment of HIV infection.

How to use
Take this medicine exactly as directed.
Consult your prescriber about the dosing and use of this medication in children, as dosing is based on body weight.

Side effects
Inform your doctor immediately if you notice any of the following side effects or any other symptoms which seem severe/persistent.
weight loss
unusual weakness
unusual bleeding
sores
skin discoloration
nausea
muscle tenderness/weakness
mood changes
fever
diarrhea
convulsions
chills
breathing difficulties
antithyroid agents
amphotericin b (injection)

Interaction
Inform your prescriber if you are allergic to any medication in any form and if you are currently taking any medication while on a course with this medicine.

Overdose
No specific signs have been identified following acute over dosage with Zidovudine.
In case of overdose, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.

Notes
Zidovudine may cause blood problems.
It is best to avoid sexual contact.
Do not share needles with anyone.

Inform your health care professional if you :
drink alcohol or alcohol-containing beverages
chemotherapy/radiation therapy recently
have any dental/kidney/liver diseases
suffer from anemia

Missed Dose
Take exactly as directed, do not double dose to make up for a missed dose. Record the missed dose and inform your doctor about your missed dose.

Storage
Store at room temperature between 15-25 degrees C / 59-77 degrees F, away from light and moisture.

Precaution
Caregivers for younger children should monitor them closely and inform any inconsistencies to the doctor immediately.
If you conceive whilst on a course with this medication inform your doctor immediately.
If you need to undergo any kind of surgery, inform your doctor you are taking this medicine.
Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, breast feeding or planning to conceive.
Do not treat yourself with OTC medication whilst on a course with this medication, without consulting with your health care professional.
Avoid alcohol and alcohol containing beverages whilst on a course with this medication.
Do not have any vaccinations without your prescribers’ approval.
