The most important side effect of Viramune is a rash which occasionally becomes so serious as to be life-threatening.

Uses
Nevirapine, a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor, works by decreasing the amount of HIV in the blood.

Side effects
If you notice any of the symptoms listed below or any other symptoms which seem severe/persistent contact your doctor immediately.
pain, ache, or sensitivity to touch just below your ribs
pale colored stools (bowel movements)
mouth blisters/lesions
muscle/joint aches
severe dizziness
abdominal pain
general ill feeling
hives
flu-like symptoms
loss of appetite
skin rash or peeling skin
swelling of the eyelids/face
unusual tiredness/weakness
yellow color of eyes/skin
dark yellow/brown urine
redness, blistering, peeling or loosening of the skin, including inside the mouth

Interaction
Inform your doctor if you are allergic to the formulation of this medication or any other medication in any other form.

rifabutin

erythromycin
St. John's wort
seizures/convulsions medicine
Inform your doctor about any other medication you may be taking in any other form.

Overdose
In case of overdose, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.

Notes
If you conceive whilst on a course with this medication inform your doctor immediately.
If you need to undergo any kind of surgery, inform your doctor you are taking this medicine.
Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, breast feeding or planning to conceive.
Do not treat yourself with OTC medication whilst on a course with this medication, without consulting with your health care professional.
Avoid alcohol and alcohol containing beverages whilst on a course with this medication.

Missed Dose
Do not take double or extra doses to make up for a missed dose. Record your missed dose and consult your health care professional.

Storage
Store at room temperature between 59-86 degrees F / 15- 30 degrees C, away from heat and moisture.

Precaution
Your doctor will order certain tests to check your body's response to nevirapine, especially during the first 18 weeks of your treatment.
Nevirapine does not prevent the spread of HIV to other people. Use a condom.
Be careful about other possible sources of blood contact.
Never share a needle or syringe with anyone.
Nevirapine may interfere with the pill and other hormonal contraceptives.
