Uses
Acyclovir, an antiviral, is used to treat herpes infections of the skin, lip, genitals, shingles & chickenpox.

How to use
Tablets / Capsules : Swallow whole with a glass of water and take exactly as prescribed.
Cream : Wash and dry the affected area(s). Wash your hands thoroughly before and after every application. Gently rub in the cream on the affected area(s) until absorbed, do not cover with a dressing unless specifically directed to do so by your prescriber.
Contact your paediatrician regarding the use of this medicine in children.

weakness
tremors
thirst
skin irritation
seizures
rash
hives
hallucinations
Acyclovir Cream :
skin rash
hives
flaking or dry skin
cracked lips
burning or irritation in areas of application
breathing difficulties
If you notice any of the symptoms listed above or any other symptoms which are severe/persistent contact your doctor immediately.

Interaction
Inform your health care professional if you are allergic to the formulation of this medicine or any other medicine in any other form.

probenecid
aids/hiv medication
phenytoin
Also, inform your prescriber if you are taking any medication whilst starting a course with this medication.

Overdose
In case of overdose, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.

Notes
If you conceive whilst on a course with this medication inform your doctor immediately.
If you need to undergo any kind of surgery, inform your doctor you are taking this medicine.
Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, breast feeding or planning to conceive.
Do not treat yourself with OTC medication whilst on a course with this medication, without consulting with your health care professional.
Avoid alcohol and alcohol containing beverages whilst on a course with this medication.

Missed Dose
Tablets / Capsules : Do not double doses to make up for a missed dose.
Cream : Do not double applications to make up for the misses application. Apply as soon as you remember it or continue with the next scheduled application.

Storage
Tablets / Capsules : Store at room temperature between 15- 25°C.
Cream : Store at room temperature between 15-25 degrees C.

Precaution
Avoid sexual contact whilst being treated for the same.
Inform your prescriber if you suffer from:
dehydration
any kidney diseases
trying to get pregnant
neurological disorders or seizures
If cream gets in your eyes, wash out with cool tap water.
Drink lots of fluids.
If your symptoms do not improve in a weeks time, consult your prescriber.
