Descriptions
Flagyl is an oral antiprotozoal and antibacterial antibiotic. It fights infections caused by bacteria or amoeba in your body.
Flagyl is used to treat bacterial or amoebic infections of the vagina, stomach, skin, joints, and respiratory tract. It will not treat a vaginal yeast infection.

Uses
Metronidazole, a nitroimidazoles, is used to treat bacterial and protozoal infections.
It will not work for viral infections.

How to use
Take exactly as prescribed by your health care professional.
Contact your paediatrician regarding the use of this medicine in children.

Interaction
This drug should not be used with the following medications because very serious interactions may occur:
amprenavir oral solution/disulfiram/lopinavir/ritonavir oral solution.
If you are currently using any of these medications listed above, tell your doctor or pharmacist.
Inform your doctor if you are allergic to the formulation of this medication or any other medication in any other form.
blood thinners
fluorouracil
busulfan
lithium
cimetidine
drugs for seizures
live bacterial vaccines
Inform your doctor about any other medication you may be taking in any other form.

Overdose
In case of overdose, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.

Notes
Sometimes treatment with Metronidazole may fail.
Use of Metronidazole medication for prolonged or repeated periods may result in oral thrush or a new vaginal yeast infection (oral or vaginal fungal infection).
Contact your doctor if you notice white patches in your mouth, a change in vaginal discharge, or other new symptoms.
This medication may interfere with certain laboratory tests (including liver function tests, blood triglyceride levels), possibly causing false test results.
Make sure laboratory personnel and your doctors know you use this drug.

Missed Dose
Do not double the dose to make up for a missed dose.

Storage
Should be stored at room temperature 25 degrees C / below 77 degrees F, away from light.

Precaution
Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: liver problems, nervous system disorders (e.g., seizures), blood disorders, Crohn's disease.
Do not use anti-diarrhea products or narcotic pain medications if you have the following symptoms because these products may make them worse.
Tell your doctor immediately if you develop: persistent diarrhea, abdominal or stomach pain/cramping, or blood/mucus in your stool. This condition may occur weeks after treatment with other antibiotics has stopped.
If you conceive whilst on a course with this medication inform your doctor immediately.
If you need to undergo any kind of surgery, inform your doctor you are taking this medicine.
Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, breast feeding or planning to conceive.
Avoid alcohol and alcohol containing beverages whilst on a course with this medication.
