Hydrogen Peroxide for Skin Whitening and Skin Lightening

Hydrogen Peroxide has various home uses such as maintaining dental health, cleansing food products, as a sterilizer and for whitening and lightening your skin as well. Skin whitening products are sold in the market with various names such as whitening creams, lotions, lighteners or fade creams. However, they all do the same function of whitening or lightening your skin. Hydrogen Peroxide, if used with necessary precautions can help you lighten your skin.

Hydrogen peroxide for skin whitening

Skin whitening is a method which eliminates skin discoloration, blemishes, age spots and scars. Any method or product used for skin lightening bleaches the hyper pigmented parts of skin to obtain a more balanced and whitened complexion. The only difference in all these products is in their ingredients. Some creams use natural products while some employ chemicals. Hydrogen peroxide has oxygen content which kills the bacteria on your skin and lightens it.

People seek whitening and lightening of skin as a lightened skin tone is considered to be more pleasant and attractive. However, a lot of people do it to remove blemishes caused by conditions like acne or birth spots on their skin. Whatever the reason may be, you should do so with precaution. Sensitive skin can react to products like Hydrogen Peroxide. So you should consult an expert before you go for any chemicals for skin.

Hydrogen Peroxide Mask for Lightened Skin

You can use the following easy to prepare mask with Hydrogen Peroxide for lightened skin.


  • Milk, 1 spoonful
  • Hydrogen peroxide, 2 spoons
  • Flour, 2 and a half spoon
  • Water, to make paste


  • Mix the contents, and add water to make a paste.
  • Apply on your face and leave it for approximately 10-15 minutes.
  • Wash and pat dry. Avoid direct contact with eyes.

You can also use Hydrogen Peroxide with lemon to lighten your skin. Take the contents on a cotton ball and rub gently on the areas you want to lighten.

Hydrogen Peroxide for Acne Spots
Wash your face with a mild soap before you apply Hydrogen Peroxide on your face. This will take off any oily content or dirt on your face. Remember not to use soap with high amount of chemicals, since it can be harsh on your skin and make it too dry. You can dip a sponge into Hydrogen Peroxide and cleanse your skin softly. If you have a little more areas of acne, you can soak a cotton ball in Hydrogen Peroxide and rub gently on areas of acne marks. Be careful not to apply on the portion that is healthy. Avoid direct contact with eyes, else it can cause irritation. Also avoid direct contact with the eyebrows and the hairline since it can act as a bleaching agent and lighten them in color.

    regarding the mask recipe, does it have to be cow’s milk? as a non-dairy person, i usually only have soy or almond milk on hand.
